Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation
This unique six-week course will help you to cultivate the practice and attitudes of mindfulness meditation in daily life by learning from your own experiences and from the wisdom of nature.
Cultivating mindfulness enhances our ability to connect with nature and reinforces its benefits. Practicing mindfulness in nature can help us get to know ourselves better, learn to more easily switch from the busy “doing” (reactive) mode to “being” (responsive) mode, and support healing. In turn, we develop greater awareness, insight and trust in ourselves, as well as learn to meet ourselves and our experiences with wisdom and kindness.
Each two-hour session includes teachings, guided practices indoors and outdoors, periods of silence, journaling, and group discussion. In the tradition of most mindfulness courses, this course includes a day-long silent retreat (further information about the retreat will be given in the course). Participants will receive a folder. Each week, handouts and readings will be added. There will be suggested home practices given weekly.
Participants should be dressed appropriately for the unpredictable spring weather, as all sessions will involve being outdoors for part of the session.
