In this active program, students are introduced to the basic features found on most maps (symbols, lines, scales, title, date, map grid). Students will learn and practice map and orienteering skills such as: reading a map, orientating maps in the correct direction, operating a compass and following a map route.

Students will start with a small practice course to hone their skills. Older students will move to a larger area, where they will work in teams to find their way to a series of control points. Younger students do a mapping exercise, producing their own map based on a grid system.
